Default Quick Question

This one is for Americans.

I was taught to believe that we vote in representatives to represent us and our opinion. Am I right or wrong because with the recent bill that was passed it proves this wrong. Were my teachers wrong?

You know, I'd like to answer this, but I feel it would be best if I didn't until I've had more time to digest and cool off.

The title is misleading. This is most definitely not a quick question.

The teacher was correct. We elect representatives to do just what their name implies. The onus is on us to tell them when they have failed in that regard. The time for that is now. Each and every incumbent needs to be removed for complete and utter failure to adhere to the will of the people.

That is our power, that is our onus, the only question is: Will we?

yes we vote for those we believe will represent our views, however; in any area there are lots of people who dont share our view and thus representatives may indeed not voice our views, also you will get lobbiests who, well, want something else .....so the representatives we vote in, may and may not voice our views but those of others in our community or those of some big lobby (see gun lobby and tobacco lobby)....the idea worked in theory, in practice....those who pay off the representatives with the most $$ get their voices heard, the rest of us are screeweddd.

For those of you that do not know what I am referring to it is the resent health care bill that was passed. Roughly 38% of Americans approved of it, meaning it was largely unpopular in America yet our representatives passed it through. Disgusting.

A recent finding that could help make the need for national health care obsolete.

Given their vote, I refuse to refer to any of them as representatives. I'd like to see them all thrown out of office.

edit: By "them," I mean anyone who voted for the bill.

The only people I know that like this bill are studio-arts majors and go to Emerson.

Any time I see percentages for "what the people want" I roll my eyes. Surveying 800 people in not indicative of a population of 300 million especially when they can pick and choose the demographic. That said, did YOU contact your representative and let them know how you feel or did you just sit on the couch and complain to the tv?

My representative is Nancy Pelosi.

Do you think my calling her up and explaining I think that she's a terrible representative of my interests is going to do a goddamn thing?

You know, if people rather let the thinking be done by their own representatives and I think thats a problem. Letting others think for you means that they can think of many things that can cost an american big dollars, beside that what is the cost of the healthcare bill to the average american versus national debt?

Dome, in order for our republic to work we need moral and somewhat informed people who are able to find the most honorable and trustworthy people of those that run for office. When the Constitution was first signed Franklin said "We've giving you a republic, if you can hold on to it." Since we are fast becoming people incapable of holding on to the republic, that's why yesterday happened.

Think about it, 280 people have just decided they can run 1/6th the US economy and your lives better than the people in the healthcare business and you. Basically yesterday was the first step towards the government completely controlling the health care of all the people, abusing property rights and liberties in the process. This is without a doubt the beginning of an age of tyranny in the US.

This happened because 39% of the public want tyranny and another 20% or so being fooled by the notion that there are moderate democrats who run for office... and there aren't. Here in Florida, a lot of moderates and independents register as republicans (and vote for mccain-like progressives in the primaries) because they are smart enough to realize that you always get the same thing with democrats. Look at the DNC, they essentially have an oligarchy to select their presidential candidate. If you don't think they are trying to set up a similar oligarchy in the federal government, you are either fooling yourself or are out of touch with the real world.

It might get you audited by the IRS or visited by the secret service depending on your word choice.

As much as I despise that they did this it's done and everyone needs to get ready for the next big thing...Amnesty. It's coming and both wings of the federal juggernaut think they can squeeze votes out of this. I believe the '12 million' figure to be much higher, possibly double, because I live where they live and not someplace like NH. The 1986 amnesty was supposed to be for 1.1 million (wound up being closer to 4) and was supposed to secure our borders. This next one will be an absolute disaster for a nation that has virtually no manufacturing base left and is effectively bankrupt. I suppose though when, as a representative, you live in a multi-million dollar mansion and have the US Air Force at your beck and call for transportation the problems of the peasants don't mean much.

Problems of the peasants are a good thing when you've set it up such that you are the only one who can fix their problems.

Before we give illegal aliens currently living in America amnesty we need to secure our borders first and prevent any more from getting in. There are still many holes in our border and crime as a result. Recently a Arizona rancher was murdered by an illegal immigrant and problems with illegal drugs crossing the border with these aliens is a problem as well. We need to protect our citizens first and stop people from entering this country illegally and becoming a potential threat to Americans. Only after we have done this can we give those in the country already amnesty. There is no sense in giving roughly 12 million illegals amnesty if you have millions more entering after that.

Well, if you plan to give amnesty to the millions entering after that and they vote for your party...
